In January of 2010, Governor Patrick signed historic education reform legislation designed to close achievement gaps by improving Massachusetts’ school districts and creating more high performing charter schools. The bill responds to the urgent need to improve student outcomes in struggling schools and positions Massachusetts to compete for millions of dollars through President Obama’s Race to the Top competition.

On April 15, 2010, at an Understanding Boston forum held at the Boston Foundation, two panels discussed the opportunities created by the education reform legislation and the challenges ahead.
