The Haiti Fund at the Boston Foundation is an expression of the greater Boston community’s concern for the people of Haiti, and their local Boston friends and relatives. After the earthquake of January 2010, this five-year fund was created to provide relief and reconstruction support to communities in Haiti and Haitian-Americans in the greater Boston area.

Governed by a 37-person Advisory Council, the vast majority of whom are Haitian or Haitian American, the Haiti Fund firmly believes that Haitians should be at the center of reconstruction efforts. For long-term sustainability to be achieved, we must build the capacity of the government and civil society to meet the needs of the people.

With a quarter of the funds already disbursed for immediate disaster relief efforts, the Haiti Fund is currently reviewing proposals for its third round of grants to be released this spring. With our modest funds we are focusing our efforts outside of Port-au-Prince and hope to have a positive impact in the areas of education, housing and rural livelihoods. We also recognize the tremendous impact of the earthquake on Haitians in the Greater Boston area and will continue to provide support to the local community in the years ahead.
